Inevitable

A stray thought of wonder,
is subject to our approach or terror,
A rapid slip into a new lover,
Is either embraced or shamed as error,

I’m often slow to surrender,
As suspected, I was not spared by either,
Paused, dreamt, and died,
Caught in wonder—to her, a goner.
